On New Year’s Eve, we party like never before. The countdown to the first minute of the third millennium is heralded the world over as a new dawn for humanity. Certainly, we’d never experienced anything like it before – nor would we again. No-one is quite sure how computer clocks will cope with the transition to the new date format and many predict a technological meltdown. But the much-feared Y2K millennium bug proves to be a damp squib among all the other celebratory firework displays.
