The launch of Amazon Web Services (AWS) marks the advent of cloud computing for everyone. The first-generation EC2 platform was initially designed to support the needs of Amazon’s own e-commerce business, but is made available to the general public to offer other businesses a way to create, deploy and scale applications using centralised infrastructure in a remote data centre.
