Buried. Alive.

2010

An estimated 5.3 million people worldwide watch via video stream as all 33 miners are finally rescued after having been trapped for 69 days inside the caved-in San José copper-gold mine in the Atacama desert in Chile. The men were raised to the surface one at a time in a specially built capsule measuring just 54cm in diameter, which was slowly lowered into and winched back up a newly drilled, 700m-deep borehole by a giant crane.
